Getting a bike in Germany
« on: September 24, 2014, 10:26:23 AM »
For those of you in Germany:

I'm here for a few months in the Stuttgart area for work and I'm looking for a bike. Does anyone know if it is possible to rent, borrow, or buy a cheap used bike? If I were in the US I would just buy something on Craigslist, but I'm not sure if there are similar options here. Ich kann auch Deutsch.

You might try www.stuttgartyardsales.com...or stuttgart bookoo (google).

also...http://www.rentabike-stuttgart.de/en/index.html - can't vouch for the service, however.

There are a couple of bicycle co-ops near the university. I would probably try there first

You could try a search for "Fahrrad" at "Stuttgart" at http://kleinanzeigen.ebay.de

I was going to suggest criagslist as well as ebay kleinanzeigen, since I've had some good luck with it in Berlin, but it seems to be just crickets where you are. Toytown germany might be another place to find the english-speaking crowd and snag a cheap ride from someone else who is leaving as you're arriving. Other than that, Trödelmarkt (IRL) and ebay kleinanzeigen (online) are the way to go to buy a cheap bike.
