Keep old 401k statements?
« on: October 20, 2018, 03:41:36 PM »
Is there any reason to keep old 401k statements?  The only thing I can think of is in the event of the plan administrator changing.  Otherwise, the statements are available online with the administrator.

Thanks for any advice!

I’ve signed up for paperless, so I don’t even get them hard copy anymore. But before I did that, I would keep the year end statements, so I could have an easy comparison for how I was doing year over year. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer on this one, just personal preference, so go with your fancy!

I keep mine, but I like having records of financial transactions.  However, I somehow managed to lose all of my old Roth IRA statements and now have no idea how much money I've contributed to the Roth.  If I need to withdraw the contributions (which can be done tax free) at some point, I hope this doesn't cause any problems.  I don't know what kind of proof one needs to make a tax-free withdrawal.
