$250 isn't frugal by any means, but it's not terrible either. We bought a pretty bottom of the line Delta faucet from a bathroom/kitchen store. Even with the contractor's discount, it was $125 or so for the chrome. The stuff they sell at Home Depot and Lowe's is cheaper because they use plastic parts on the inside. At least that's what every plumber has ever told me. The plumber who did our new bathroom refused to put in anything from a big box store. At least he wouldn't warranty it. Having said that, we have an American Standard faucet from Home Depot in another bathroom that looks great and never drips after over 10 years of regular use.
I would have similar concerns to thegoblinchief that this wrought iron finish would cause problems long term. IMO chrome is classic and never goes out of style. I would never do a bathroom in anything else.
But, no, $250 for the Moen isn't terrible, and Moen is a good quality brand that should last. It wouldn't make sense to spend 50% less on something that is an inferior product. And for a rare finish like that, she is likely going to pay more regardless.
