I have a Kenmore fridge with bottom freezer drawer (Model #59666039603) and the light in the freezer is no longer working. I have changed the bulb twice to see if that was the issue but nope...still not working.

This has happened a few times before when we (accidentally) left the freezer drawer open a bit and it frosted up. It eventually came back on after a few hours/up to a day of defrost. This time it it has not come back on (and it's been about 2 days). I believe the switch froze the last few times but that doesn't' seem to be the case this time.

I know it's antimustachian but I miss the light in there and want it fixed. I'd like to do it myself so I figured I'd ask if anyone has experienced this and was able to fix it on their own? Some parts look pretty inexpensive but I'm not sure which is causing the defect (switch, socket or something else entirely).

Figured I'd throw the question out to the forum before scheduling a pro to come over ($) look at it ($$) and fix it ($$$?).

Is it a standard base bulb? If so, can you screw in a new bulb and does it light up?

If the switch is faulty, it might be a 30 minute job and a $10 part.

Well, what you need to do is determine which part(s) are defective.  Thankfully it's easy to do with a cheap volt meter.   Test the leads where the bulb is (probably not it since you tried a new bulb, but always possible your bulb was a dud). If there's no current the problem is upstream.  Then check the two wires before the switch. If you've got current it's the switch (easy and cheap to change).  If not there follow the wire until it reaches the back (hopefully there will be a quick-release connector).

My money is on the switch being bad.
g'luck.
