Free streaming subscriptions?
« on: February 25, 2023, 07:44:56 AM »
If you go to bestbuy.com and do a search there on apple tv+ you will find a free 3 month subscription for apple tv+ -- for new and returning customers.

I plan on getting this on June 1st after the season 3 of Ted Lasso has finished. And cancelling a couple days before the 3 months are up.

Are there any other services which offer say a free month of service?  I got Paramount Plus for free with my itnernet company, for a year.

Most the major services have a free trial period you just have to remember to cancel, though offering one to returning customers is better than average.

If you search for "free streaming services" many are ad-supported altogether, but I'm not sure if you are interested in that model. Tubi is the one we use most often & has been a good experience with quiet inoffensive ads although most the content is older. We're considering trying those only, at least for a while, after we cancel Netflix.

Some libraries also offer streaming movies.

The Roku Channel is free - therokuchannel.roku.com it's got some movies and TV shows including some older ones and a handful of originals.

There are quite a few ad-supported streaming services and basically all of them offer a free 7-30-day trial. I used a free 7-day trial for HBO a while back to watch the Chernobyl miniseries. Definitely not worth $15 a month for me though.

We'll probably drop Paramount+ when they raise the price after merging with Showtime. It's got a few series we like but we can always cancel and come back next year when some new seasons come out.

Paramount+ is pretty easy to find free month codes.  You have to cancel your subscription and let it run out, but I'm on my 3rd month free using the codes they put out.  DoctorOfCredit will list them for you.

Kanopy is a great 'free' streaming service, assuming you are part of a library that pays for their service.

Mostly documentaries and history videos, but it is free for the user.

Thanks for these - I cancelled our Netflix last week, so when it runs out we will be looking for a few options from time to time.

Posting so that I can find this thread again!

Paramount+ has been free for about 1.5 years.  I've used probably 15 codes for free months so far.  Just enter them and cancel immediately so you don't get charged.

If you have an Amex card, they have a credit so you can get Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+ for about $13 a month.  Cheaper than paying for just Hulu on its own.

You'll want to check what streaming benefits you have through your cell service or home internet.

T-Mobile offers free Netflix (at least on some plans).

When we had AT&T home internet last year, it included HBO Max.

Thanks I just checked hbomax.com and logged in via provider account.  Unfortunately my Fiber Internet 300 plan with AT&T doesn't include HBOMAX.  I did get a free year of Paramount Plus though with AT&T if I recall.   Using tello.com for phone.

If you have amazon prime already they have a solid library to stream for free.  If you are a comcast internet customer, you get peacock premium for free.

Yeah I used to have Amazon Prime up until this year. I couldn't tolerate the increase to $139.  When I signed up originally it was $69 per year.

I am finding I don't really need Amazon Prime because I just put $25 worth of stuff in the cart and get it shipped for free anyways.  I used to enjoy Prime when I'd consistently get things in 1 to 2 days, but ever since covid it sometimes takes a week and well they don't seem to care, so I don't care about their subscription anymore.

I know I'll miss a few shows from Amazon prime like Marvelous Mrs. Mazel.   I'll wait for the new season to finish and then choose Amazon Prime video for a particular month in my streaming subscription rotation.

I have a rule, no more than one paid streaming service per month and to immediately cancel after signing up for the 30 days.   So I wait for seasons to finish and then binge watch it all in a month and move onto another service the following month.. eventually circling back.. rinse repeat.  [I'm skipping Netflix though because I can't stand the people who run it and their policies.]

I think Amazon Prime Video alone is an $8.99 service?  Hopefully I'll get a 30 day free offer for Prime from Amazon later this year so I don't have to pay them anything to watch Marvelous Mrs Maisel :)

Here's going to be my approach for watching the new upcoming seasons of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime.

In a few months I mgiht get a free 30 day offer to Amazon Prime.. I'll use that and binge watch MMM (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel not Mr. Money Mustache lol) along with any other Prime shows.

The current offer Amazon is giving me is to join for 1 week for $1.99.  If this is all they continue to offer me later, I might do that binge watch MMM and cancel before the end of week.  I'll try and coordinate the $1.99 purchase with an actual package I need shipped sooner, or if the extra 2% cash back on the Chase Amazon Prime Credit Card pays for it -- I get 3% cash back since I am not a member currently, but get 5% cash back if I am a member.

So I can get Apple TV, Showtime, Hulu and Paramount Plus plus for free any time this year.  And then do the Prime Video thing for at worst $1.99.  Not too bad.  I'll have to look into somehow getting HBO MAX and Disney for free as well.  (I don't care for Netflix.)

I actually think my annual budget will be $1.99 for all streaming services for the rest of the year :)
