Folding bike worth buying?
« on: July 19, 2012, 11:25:04 PM »
So I just recently sold my big ol' crap bike that I'd had since I was 12.  It was huge and taking up way too much space in my little apartment.  Also, I have nowhere to lock it up outside, so it must go inside.

I have been considering buying a folding bike.  But will it be useful?  Can you use a trailer?  I grocery shopped for years with a backpack and a rack bag on my old bike.

Also, I already have one of these wonderful contraptions, which I use to zoom around over distances of <1-2 miles.  It's great for bus riding, and it really is bombproof.  But it's no good for heavy-duty transport or larger distances.

P.S. Bought it through allofcraigs from a guy in NYC, who shipped it to me.  Didn't save much over the new price, but had to brag on my CL-fu.

Folding bike plus trailer would take up about as much space as a normal bike plus panniers.

Since you are down with scooters, have you considered a bmx?

Folding bikes fit perfectly in the space where they're just big enough to be clunky and just compact enough to have poor geometry and cargo utility. If I were you, I would find a way to store a full-size bike, by hanging it up high or making it narrow.

That's brilliant.  The rotating handlebar adjuster looks like it could be a pain to acquire, but the folding pedals not so much.  Hmmm...I will look into it!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
