I bought a foaming hand soap, and once it was up I've been refilling it with liquid hand soap and water. It's worked perfect, but now suddenly there is a lot of resistance in pushing the pump down. I've flushed the pump and refilled it with another soapmix, but the problem is still there. Any other ideas of what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Your efforts to fix this problem have already exceeded the valu of the item, by far. You probably lodged a microbead in the cheap plastic gears or something. Consider this a sunk cost of $1. You can partially reclaim the value by burning the plastic for heat... try not to breathe in the toxic fumes.

I've found they're just one of those limited use items.

It lasted three years. More expensive ones (metal, glass, etc) designed to be refillable have always broken on me.
I have a Mrs Meyers foaming soap pump in the kitchen I keep refilling with diluted dish soap. Not three years yet but it's a good mechanism.

Ya, these are limited use. I get anywhere between 3-10 refills out of mine with dishsoap diluted with water. The effects of hard tapwater & prolonged use just start to gum things up after awhile

I have 2 Method foaming soap dispensers that I've been using for 2.5 years. They do get so that they stick a little bit (mostly where you have to pull the top back up before you can push it down again to pump more soap out), but have overall worked fine.
I've found the best thing to refill them with is Dr. Bronner's soap, and you don't need much - maybe 15-20% soap and the rest water? I've also had fun buying unscented Dr. Bronner's and then using a few drops of essential oil to scent it.
That all being said, I agree that it's a limited-use item. Luckily, it's very inexpensive to buy a new one every few years!

I've also found the method dispensers to be the longest lasting.
