Title: financial planning for student debt?
Post by: beyondhuman on November 12, 2013, 01:30:27 AM
I am planning to attend professional school next year while my wife continues her undergraduate work.  Based on the COA estimates for our schools our final debt load will probably be insane.  Unfortunately, I am not especially good at making the kind of projections appropriate for assessing the situation and considering other educational/career paths.  Which leads to my actual question?

Does anybody know where I could turn for professional advice on this kind of thing?

Most financial planning services I have seen seem to be focused on investing/retirement or dealing with debt after-the-fact.  Of course I could talk to the financial aid offices but based on my own undergrad experience they are mostly good at helping people take out more loans rather than minimizing debt (at least it's free though).

I am not sure of a financial planner, but if you can estimate what your debts and interest rates will be, this file is useful for estimating costs in interest and length of time to pay off. If you want to do some planning on your own.
