Discord is a well known chat platform, it's definitely not a virus.  Although I do agree that my post does come across as spammy :)

I guess chat rooms are not as popular in 2017 as they were in 97'

There are some chat rooms for subreddits. For example, /r/investing has a discord server and /r/personalfinance has an IRC channel. It doesn't look like /r/financialindependence has a chat room, though.

Fair critique. It's meant to be a funny pun taken from a Wu Tang song. "CREAM" stands for Cash Rules Everything Around Me. "DREAM" was created to stand for Debt Rules Everything Around Me. Since Debt and Cash are crucial to financial independence, the name was born - it sounds similar to Dream Team :).

I don't have any intention of being a famous chat room mogul, just wanted to make a fun group for like minded people. I don't intend to change the name, but I'm open to suggestions if you are serious about joining the community.

So, I'm on discord. And real time there is the same as real time here - you have to be online, paying attention to it. The only real difference is you get harassed with notifications. If you're looking to clutter your phone up with more notifications I think you probably need to do a technology detox.

Me too. But the notifications are pretty much the only reason to move to discord.
