family-friendly online TV in Canada?
« on: September 15, 2016, 02:17:48 PM »
I've been a big fan of Netflix's service, but it won't let me screen out horror covers and it has now introduced porn, accessible in my kid's settings.

I have no physical television, no boxes, etc, just the laptops on intermittent wifi.

Is there an online show option in Canada that lets use "see" only "family-friendly" (gentle, good for "highly sensitive persons") stuff?
I'm happy to pay a subscription fee.

If not, we'll go back to DVDs from the library, but I prefer online.

Netflix does have a "Kids" profile. I've had a look on mine and there is no way of accessing the horror movies from the kids profile.

Also I cannot find any porn. How do I find that? For science...

;)

Check out one called Love.

I wonder if your kid profile is set younger than mine? For my kid, I use the Kids browse option. It shows largely good stuff. But its search field allows me to bring up the above title.

Odd. The Kid profile doesn't show the Love title on mine.

If you go to "Manage Profiles" you can change the "Allow TV programmes and Films" setting and the Kids profile is set at "For Older Kids and Below".

^ Just now figured that out, good! Turns out it was because I was allowing him "teen" content vs "older kid", so now he's back to childish cartoons, which isn't going to cut it for him. I didn't know porn was for 13 year olds.

Still keen on an option that allows us more selection in what we're exposed to while searching for gentle stuff...

Here are some ideas...

Parables TV
Dove Channel
PBS (?)

NOTE: I'm in the US and get these through a Roku device.  Some if not all should be available with laptop only.
