Etiquette Surrounding Job Offer
« on: November 25, 2019, 10:37:05 AM »
Recently I received a response to a resume I submitted to a company I would really, really like to work for. The recruiter sent me an email with a link to a calendar where I input 3 half-hour blocks of availability. The phone call I was supposed to receive during one of these time periods never came. I sent a quick follow up email to the recruiter with my phone number in case they somehow had it wrong. It's now a few days later and I have not received anything back. Yes, this does reflect poorly on the company, but I still want the job. So, what should I do now? Leave it alone because further contact looks desperate? Wait a few more days and send one more follow-up email? I am not at all happy that the company left me in this awkward situation.

Maybe try again, but be sure to be super polite. Sorry I missed your call, I'm very interested in speaking with you vs. Why didn't you call me?

Whoa, is the recruiter a mustachian!? Received an email within a few minutes of posting this, haha.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like I'm all good.

Just trying to make it to the screening call at the moment, haha.

Yeah your title doesn't seem right; it seems like etiquette surrounded a phone interview.

To me, it sounds like the filled the position.

The fact that they got back to you within a few days is good actually. Being that it's around the holidays hiring often slows down, unless it's a seasonal position.

Internal recruiters can be really lazy.   It is really common for them to not respond or miss phone calls.  You just have to politely keep on them.

FWIW my company is poor/slow/disorganized at recruitment and hiring processes. Breakdowns in communication between HR and hiring managers happen though thankfully not often.
My last hire had TWO such breakdowns, the second in the references phase. The preferred candidate followed up with a soft email asking if there was anything more she could provide. It was a win-win for her as it both got our HR process back in track, and that soft approach made me much more amenable in negotiating her starting salary.
