Looking at IRA options
« on: November 01, 2016, 03:37:20 PM »
Hello I have a couple different questions.  I have a friend that is a realtor and her husband does home inspections.  They are both self employed.  What are some good pre tax IRA options for them to get into they could open themselves?

For me I have a W2 job that does not offer an IRA.  I also have some passive income from apartments and self storage but I only do book keeping for both. I have a SEP from a previous job and a Roth IRA.  What options do I have for contributing pre tax?

Vanguard is a very good IRA provider. Fidelity and Schwab are also fine if you stick to their no-commission index funds. Anyone with earned income can contribute to an IRA.

Also, people with self-employment income can open up a solo 401(k) or SEP IRA if they wish to shelter more of their income than a typical IRA will allow. There are various pros and cons to these two options.
