The 50,000 points for spending $1,000 in first 3 months offered by Amex with first year annual fee waived seems like good deal even with converting the points to statement credit for .6 cents per point. It would be 30% off the first 1,000 spent. And before I read MM blog, I wouldn't have a problem spending 1,000 in three months, probably spend way more than that ^^;;, but now I'm struggling to figure out what I could I spend for one person when I no longer make impulsive online purchases or eat out regularly.

Is it worth the hassle? Do people stop applying for new credit cards for their bonus offers after they become less wasteful?

Everything I've seen about this card says 25,000 points - where's the offer for 50,000?

I do this whenever the reward is worth the time cost of switching all my recurring bills over to a new card. Last year I think I earned an extra $700 by getting new cards with bonuses.

I got the 50,000 points offer code in the mail yesterday. I don't have any recurring bills that can be paid with a credit card, the landlord includes the utilities in the rent, the pretax amount of my bus pass and dental insurance are deducted from my paycheck, and I buy groceries at Aldi (doesn't accept any credit cards) and JMart (doesn't accept Amex). Thanks for the idea =). I open three new credit cards this year for their bonuses, but their required amount was only $500 in first three months to get $100.

I got this offer in the mail the other day too and have been considering it. Fairly ludicrous year 2 annual fee, and not the easiest points to redeem for "full value." It is a pretty damn good bonus though, and I may do it. I just can't quite bring myself to go whole hog into being someone who games the credit card system.  I don't give a damn about my credit score and I never will have to, and I'm organized enough to not worry about missing something.

I may be talking myself into doing it...

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
