Churning Questions
« on: November 22, 2014, 04:19:42 PM »
I've been googling but not getting answers to some of my specific questions.

  • I'm married. If I apply for Card A to get the sign on bonus, can my husband also apply to Card A and double up our sign on bonus earnings?
  • It seems the "earning $10000/year" churners either have a business (to spend and earn a lot) or are doing the travel miles tricks or something else I haven't guessed. IS there anyway for a churner to earn similar results with Cash Back Cards? I'm just not a traveler at the moment. May be a consideration 3 years from now.
  • Does anyone Checking Account Churn? My husband got $150 for opening a bank account recently. I bank separately from my husband and  I see that Chase is giving $200 for an account. Since one can sometimes split their paycheck auto deposits (I think my work does this at least up to two accounts) I think I could churn two accounts at once? But that may tie up significant income. Mostly a bad idea?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

By the way. Chase Freedom, which is listed on MMM, just increased their sign on bonus from $100-$200 for $500 of required purchases. It's a "limited 3 month offer" that I just happily utilized.

I'd like someone to detail exactly how they churn 10K in profit. Our churning ebbs and flows, last year we did quite a bit and the result was about $3000 in cash back and free airfare.

Yes, you and your husband can each apply for a card and you'll both qualify for the bonus.

Thanks for the Chase Freedom tip. That's low hanging fruit that I just might apply for.

Good luck!

The speaker was Marla, a woman who I knew to be financially independent and retired in her 40s, creative, entrepreneurial, and a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with. But she also enjoyed pulling the various levers of the credit card system to extract well over $10,000 per year of cash and mostly-free travel.

I have serious DIY renovations next year and plan to net $1150 just in sign in bonuses with various cards requiring a total spend of $10,000. I'm assuming that somewhere in that mix, I'll be getting a minimum 1%-5% back on the purchases plus my usual day to day spend with cash back rewards garnering me, say, $450+.

Estimated total for 2015; $1600

I'm new to this, so that's an amazing pull to me that couldn't be repeated because I don't spend $1000+/month on day to day spending.
