Downgrading Chase Sapphire Preferred to Chase Sapphire
« on: August 30, 2015, 03:13:53 PM »
Has anyone downgraded the Chase Sapphire Preferred card to Chase Sapphire? Ever since they stopped offering the Chase Sapphire card, I can't seem to find any information on it on the Chase website.

I've had my CSP for 1.5 years, and I'll like to keep it around as a CS without the annual fee. Yes, I know that it's better to cancel the CSP, then reapply after a while to get the signup bonus again, but I'm leaving the US for the next 3-5 years (at least) for work, and I don't want to deal with new credit cards. My main aim is to have a US-based credit card for travel if I come back to visit, and to use the reward points for travel redemption.

For those who have done it, do you still get access to Ultimate Rewards and can you still transfer to points to airline miles? Are there foreign transaction fees?

(If there is a reliable source for the updated benefits of the Chase Sapphire card, let me know? My google skills are failing me today.)

I don't know the answer, but I have seen discussions on this topic over at the doctorofcredit  site. Just do a quick search and you should find the right thread.

I have done it and once downgraded there are foreign transaction fees, but no annual fee.

Do you still have access to ultimate rewards?

Yes, but only for 1:1 cash. You need preferred to do airline partner transfers.
