Dollar dilemma :)
« on: September 10, 2017, 11:49:17 AM »

Hello fellow Mustachians,

I have a dilemma which I could use your advice on. I made a career change to allow myself time to take classes and trained to be a nurse. Currently  Im working as an aide at the hospital and taking several classes at a community College.  Science courses at community College are not as hard as I have predicted so I have some time left on my hands. Additionally, my job as an aide doesn't pay too well and I have some large unexpected expenses coming up.

I am thinking of applying for a full time job as a secretary while continuing my classes and working at the hospital on the weekends to keep my foot in the door.  Option 2 is I can try to apply for another part time job and keep my full time job at the hospital. However, because I work a rotating schedule at the hospital, it will be an issue setting a set schedule with the part time employer.

What are your thoughts on these options? Thank you in advance for taking time to offer your suggestions.

You could apply for higher paid patient care jobs at the hospital that require only a short course or on the job training + your aide certification (IV team, phlebotomist, surgical prepper, dialysis technician, etc.). These will look better on your resume once you become a nurse, and you will also have the option of going part time when you start clinicals.
