Does anyone have a Zinus memory foam mattress?
« on: March 06, 2017, 11:39:27 AM »
I had sold myself on Purple because reviews are fantastic and I haven't had a great mattress in years, but I'm having a hard time justifying that when I can get a Zinus 12" for $229 (which also has stellar reviews).

I'm not sure if the reviews are mostly skewed to their corresponding price brackets (i.e. Purple is fantastic value in the high-end market, and Zinus is as well in the low-end market) or if they are legitimately similar in comfort.

I havn't yet tried out the Zinus memory foam. But I have tried out Innerspring ones. Innerspring mattresses really deserve a comeback. They're easy to manage, taut, supportive and comfortable for most people.

Wow!  That Zinus is cheap!

I just bought a Ghostbed mattress which is about 3 times more expensive.   I slept on it for the first time last night - it was really good.

Here is the Sleep like the Dead review: http://www.sleeplikethedead.com/memory-foam-nitetherapy.html

It looks like it is decent (76% positive user rating) but has some outgassing issues, lack of support for larger people and couples which would make it a no go for us.

I've been doing some more reading and it turns out that mattress research is a huge rabbit hole.  I am now leaning towards Addable due to the high density foam construction that's uncommon in less expensive mattresses.

As a tangent, here's an interesting article on the mattress industry: http://thesweethome.com/blog/why-startup-mattresses-cost-less

I personally think mattress markups are a scam, but maybe I can just sleep on anything.  There's a great Freakanomics podcast on mattresses and mattress buying.  Haven't tried the Zinus, but I got the bed frame and can highly recommend that.  I did get the signature sleep 8" mattress on Amazon and I HIGHLY recommend.  Only $179!
