Does anyone drive a Peugeot?
« on: January 18, 2018, 04:27:15 PM »
My 17 year old has saved up for a car and is considering buying a 2011 Peugeot 308. Weve read a lot of reviews and it seems to be economical and reliable but Id like to find someone who actually has had one for a real review... She will be driving to work and friends, just a general runabout.
Thanks!

Pain in the rear.  French mechanics of everthing are different than most of the world.   Finding people to fix it and the parts is just as bad.  Get something simpler and more common.

The French aren't known for good cars.

So pursue British humor, French food and wine, and German cars,
NOT German humor, British food and wine, nor French cars.

Not that I'd get a French car, but I'd also stay away from German ones as well. I'm convinced that German auto engineers spend half their days trying to figure out ways to needlessly complicate things.

I used to own a 2001 Peugeot 306. I loved how it drove (I still miss the steering on that thing), and the servicing costs weren't too bad with a specialist mechanic (still a bit more than a Corolla or a Commodore but not huge). Not sure what it'd be with any old mechanic, many of them probably hike up the price because it's a European brand.

However after I overheated it, it was never the same afterwards.

From a Mustachian perspective, you're probably better off sticking with something more common like a Corolla, i30 or Mazda3. That said, I didn't regret owning that Peugeot (even though it was financially a poor choice). These days I drive a comparatively boring old Holden :)

For the money, more fun to drive than Jap or Ford. Safe and reliable. A good choice!
