I immediately thought Eww!  But I guess I don't if I'm camping/in the woods and #1 happens on a tree.

I've had this argument with every man I've ever dated.  My position:  Look at it as an opportunity to practice good hand hygiene throughout your day.

Sure, when I was peeing in the woods all summer while hiking, I did not immediately use hand sanitizer if I didn't touch anything.  But I wasn't touching toilet lids or door knobs or the flusher, etc.  Those are the things that make my brain code my hands as dirty when I use the bathroom (not wiping a pee drip).

I went with "Yes, with just water" because A) urine is sterile and B) urine is water soluble.

Gentlemen, for the record, I, as a woman, do not wish to have contact with your penis. Please wash your hands, with soap and water if available, otherwise use hand sanitizer. Even if you don't think you need to.

Yes, I wash my hands.

I can only assume that the next poll is going to be on peeing in the shower...

No qualms with peeing in the shower.  It never really occurred to me to do so, until the pandemic hit and my mom had to resort to peeing in the shower to conserve TP because she was one of the unfortunates who hadn't hoarded it.  If it's good enough for my mom, it's good enough for me.

I do stop the habit while using community showers over the summer.

LOL, this is a funny thread - maybe it belongs in the "Antimustachian Wall of Shame and Comedy" forum...

On one hand (no pun intended) you *could* argue that washing your hands is a waste of water. Especially in California. And especially if you're a single guy with no intention to date or marry.

If you're a guy, it is quite possible to pee without ever touching your penis (unzip and use your underwear's elastic band). You also don't have to touch the toilet very often if you prefer to save water by only flushing once per day or after #2.

More importantly, you should always wash before you eat, just in case you have any unsavory bacteria on your hands.

Yes with soap and water.  I first thought, what an odd poll, almost all will pick this answer.  But then I remembered all the times I've been in a public mens room and people just pee and go.  So yeah, let's check out these results....

You explained it perfectly.  I similarly would wash my hands if I stepped into a public bathroom stall to make some type of clothing adjustment, because I would be touching the door, lock, etc.

Well now you've got me curious.  Any chance of adding a 'see results' option to the poll, for those of us without penises who'd like to see the results?

A) urine is sterile

Urine isn't sterile.  That's a commonly believed myth.  The urine of a perfectly healthy person contains bacteria.

FWIW - I always wash my hands with soap and water after peeing.  My thought process is always . . . if I go play guitar, do I want oils from the skin on my dick rubbed across my fretboard?  And the answer is always - nope, I do not want that.

It's disappointing OP hasn't contributed anything to their own thread.  That said...

Whether I wash my hands after peeing depends on what I'll be doing immediately afterward.  If I'm in a home or office setting, then yes, I make sure to wash my hands after.  If I'm about to get my hands dirty or if I'm in the middle of something and they're mildly dirty, then I don't bother washing. In the case that my hands are disgustingly dirty and I don't want to get that on my crotch or underwear, I try to wash them beforehand if possible.

For many years, I actually had the habit of washing my hands before going to the washroom.  I worked as an exterminator, and it turns out that one of the most common ways of poisoning yourself with insecticide is through the genitals.

There is a view results button under the post. It's a grey button.

If you bathe regularly then your hands are dirtier than your genitals. Perhaps the real question should be asking whether you wash your penis/vagina after going #1.

Whether or not it is illogical, it is not socially acceptable to not wash your hands after using the restroom.

If I'm reading you right here . . . you're proposing that people greet by banging their genitals together rather than handshakes for cleanliness sake?  :P

CLOP here (critical lack of penis), but as a female in the trades, I found it very true that "you know you're blue collar if washing your hands before using the bathroom is just as important, or even more important, than washing your hands after using the bathroom."

A common concern is picking up germs from the toilet. If you could theoretically urinate without touching any bathroom surfaces, would that change your answer?

Urinal, elastic band of pants, auto flush sensor, foot door opener... totally possible, but still not socially acceptable

When I worked in a lab it was always remove gloves, wash hands very well, go to bathroom, wash hands really well, wait for hands to completely dry (or use powder) then reglove and get back to work.  Annoying but necessary, especially how long it takes for hands to get dry enough to reglove.

But worth it, you did not want to rub anything you might have on your hands on your person, or get it on areas (door handles etc) that other people might then get on themselves.

Boy, was my sink dry.
