mustachian *warm* vacations in Utah in early April
« on: March 04, 2014, 10:29:40 AM »
Curious what the mustachian crowd will come up with.

I live about 4 hours north of SLC and it's cold. I want to take vacation with my girlfriend somewhere warm that we can drive to in a day. So let's say within 6 hrs of SLC. My best thought was a yurt somewhere near St. George. We're going in early April and it would be great to get somewhere with temps in the 60s to 70s. I haven't worn a t-shirt outside since October.

Anyone got any favorite spots that fit the bill?

With how warm it has been this February, SLC might be in those temps by April.  St. George is a good choice. It will probably be in the eighties by then. Moab is another choice for April. We used to camp there over spring break and Arches is amazing that time of year.  I'm sure the other southern Utah national and state parks would be great as well.

My wife and I are doing moab over memorial day weekend. We can't wait.

If it were up to me we would stay in the hostel there. But we booked a couple bed a and breakfasts. One has a full kitchen in our room so we can save money on eating out.

I second Moab, especially if you are an active person.  We went on a vacation to SLC / Dinosaur National Monument / Arches National Park (Moab), and Moab was undoubtedly our favorite; it was a shame we only got to spend a day there.

They have an enormous list of organized activities there, and also some great hiking trails.  My wife and I hiked the Sound of Silence trail (which I strangely can't find on their site but was recommended by a ranger) which was probably 7-10 miles and was appropriately named, we didn't see another soul the entire hike.

Moab is great, St George is good as well, and if there isn't traffic Vegas is a 6 hour drive from SLC so that could be an option as well. Also there are a few hot springs in utah that you  might look into as well.
Good luck and have fun!

Sweet! Thanks for the advice, everyone.

We're leaning toward St. George, just because that is likely to be hot. My gf teaches skiing, so we're ready for warm weather. Moab does look great, though it's a little cooler than St. George by virtue of the altitude. With a warm weather forecast, we'd take it over the longer drive to St. George. We love to mountain bike, so either way we'll rent bikes and get out there.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
