Difficult rust situation

I know, I know, I should've prevented it from happening, but I didn't.

My metal shower rod has rust where the moisture drips from after I shower. Scrubbing it helped a little. I tried a vinegar and baking soda mix where I wet cotton balls in vinegar, put some baking soda on them and rubber banded them to the underside of the rod and let it sit overnight. That did not help.
Anyone have suggestions?

CLR? I've used it in the past with decent results.

I also used a metal scrubby (SOS pad) as long as the metal is smooth and not easily scratched.

Unless it is just surface rust you'll probably never be able to get rid of the rust as the protective chrome or whatever is probably gone.

How does water from your shower drip onto the shower rod?  Isn't the shower rod above the shower head?

Moisture condenses on the shower rod from the hot shower, then drips from it. I'll look into clr.

Steel wool can work for something like that if it is just surface rust on bare metal.
