Why doesn't this forum have...
« on: September 23, 2015, 09:36:20 AM »
To me this forum needs a career section. Very helpful for a lot of us just getting started.

Is it somewhere and I missed it?

What's on your wishlist for the MMM forum?

Just an FYI, Suze Orman is offering her 7 plan financial course online free through the 25th.

Not relevant to the original post.

I think the forum needs a "Recipes" section where we can post and scour lower cost meal ideas.  :)   Makes as much sense as the DIY.

Yeah the main thing we are missing is lots more miscellaneous categories.

Twenty-one separate sub-fora is just too, too little to keep track of.

I feel like a dedicated sub-forum to career advice on a forum/site that's dedicated to financial independence and early retirement is a bit strange...
Or is that just me? (I don't mind if such a sub-forum would exist, I just doubt I'll frequent it)

I think what's missing is everyone who isn't on the Forum. Everyone should be a Mustachian! (sorry if this makes the websites crash more due to massive traffic increase)

Every other day, if not everyday, there is a question about careers. It would just be easier to have all in one place. The same questions get asked: side hustles, going back to school, mba, going into financial services or accounting, what to do with no degree or education, best career choices etc. I have seen all of these questions asked over the last month. So what is the problem having a sub-forum for those questions?

It's nice to have a general "ask a mustachian section" because after a certain point the reader base gets diluted. I think there are already too many sections and I already spend too much time here.
I posted once to the children section and got a very small number of answers. I would've been nice to get the many perspectives of the general section. I think the number of readers would have to quadruple to sustain even more categories, being that there are already categories that aren't trafficked that much.

I always used the "show unread posts since last visit" button, as do a lot of others. This increases traffic to some categories that are not often trafficked. But I agree we don't need more categories.

I only come to this sub thread. I do believe a career thread would be popular. This thread is popular because it is most referenced in the actual blog.

This doesn't appeal to me.

I sometimes try searching before posting, but the search engine this forum offers is pretty terrible. It's painfully slow and very inaccurate.

You might try going to the beginning of the browser window, inserting your search term(s), a space, and (w/o the quotes) "site:".  Then keep as much or as little of the URL as you want.  E.g.,

HDHP site:forum.mrmoneymustache.com/taxes/
or
HDHP site:forum.mrmoneymustache.com/
