I figure this is one of the best venue's to ask this question, given most of "regular" society's savings rate (or lack thereof.)  I have 2 separate employers, and contribute a mix of traditional and ROTH 401k in both.  I'm very diligent about arriving right at the max contribution limit for the year.  Unfortunately my main employer did yearly reviews, and deposited the yearly bonuses on the same date---the last 5 years, there has been at least a week's time between the actual review and deposit, allowing me to adjust contributions accordingly.  My main employer's plan did cap my 2017 contributions at 18k, but obviously have no knowledge of the plan with my part time employer.  I have contributed a 50/50 mix at my part time employer of $469.51. Moreover, I've contributed $18,469.51 in a combination of ROTH and traditional 401k through employer sponsored plans.  What is the easiest and most cost effective way to remedy this??? Thanks in advance!

I had this happen in 2016 because of switching jobs.  My HR is a bunch of idiots.  But luckily the 401k was held at Fidelity, and the agent there took care of it all for me easily.  Then my employer issued a check and a statement.  Easy-peasy!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
