Title: Credit Union over Megabank?
Post by: Jon Bon on August 05, 2019, 03:53:36 PM
So I have had about my third run in with a megabank (Chase). Needless to say it was not pleasant. No one ever knows anything, zero accountability, and zero answers. I will leave that there.

Has anyone had a good experience with a credit union? Specifically home lending? I have heard they are a decent option I just dont have any experience with them.

Stories good and bad are welcome.

I was able to refinance my former house with the credit union under a first lien home equity. No appraisal required and the closing costs were $200. I did biweekly payments and they were actually applied biweekly instead of holding them until a full payment was made like the big banks do. They also didn't require an escrow account, so I could pay my tax and insurance myself when the bill was due. Overall a good experience, but they couldn't finance my current house because it is an agricultural property, so I had to go to a big bank. The thing I like most about the credit union is that there is no automated phone answer software, you actually get a person right away.
