It’s so different here. We had a few outbreaks in other cities, and one locally transmitted case here in Shanghai, and everyone freaked out. Temperature checks at all malls and restaurants, mandatory masks in public places, and our work is forbidding us from leaving the city for nonessential reasons.
On the other hand, all our restaurants are open, all our malls are open, and it’s pretty much business as usual except everyone’s wearing masks.
Our vaccination rate is decent, but uses old vaccine technology. We are being told it’s more effective for the delta variant than the mRNA vaccines. Who knows if it’s true, but for the most part, everyone tries to social distance and/or wear masks if social distancing is not achievable. Our new reality is to grab your wallet, your phone, your keys, and your mask before heading out the door. And to wash your hands as soon as you return home.
