Corded electric shaver
« on: November 10, 2019, 08:24:19 PM »
My electric shaver died, and I'm looking for a replacement. I would prefer a corded model, not because I love cords, but because I want this purchase to last for many years. Batteries almost always fail after a couple years and they are typically not user-replaceable. Any suggestions?

I am considering the Norelco 1100, but people complain this has a thin, tangly cord. It has a transformer on the cord, so it doesn't have a 120V motor and lacks power. I'm also looking at the Norelco 3100, which does have a battery but will also work in corded mode even after the battery fails.

Batteries almost always fail after a couple years...

Where do you get this idea from?  Batteries lose their capacity after a certain number of charge / discharge cycles, not elapsed time.  Mobile phone batteries go quickly because people charge and discharge them every day--or multiple times a day--and possibly leave them charging overnight because they are "essential."  You won't charge your razor nearly as frequently, so it will last much longer, in terms of calendar days.

I did just change to a "modern" razor, and briefly mourned the fact that the Lion battery can't be used in corded mode, unlike my NiCAD-powered one.  I had that for...15 years?  I have had its replacement for almost two years, with no discernible difference in time between charges--a few weeks.

My cordless electric razor that I bought in 2009 is still going just fine.
