I want to update that my wife has decided to leave her job to be SAHP and she has notified her employer. She plans to keep her mind challenged by involving more in kids education...
Just wanted to share this family story. My 'Murican Aunt met a boy from Holland in college when they shared a cab home from a party. They did not know each other, but they started chatting when the cabbie insisted that she be dropped off first, even though he lived much closer (It was the '50's). The rest is history. They moved to Holland and had two children. There was always the possibility that his multi-national company would send him to the US. My aunt got copies of all her friend's kid's American textbooks. They went to school by day and in the afternoons she tutored then with the American texts, so they'd be up to speed in the event of a transfer. It never happened, but the kids both came to the US for college. The son went to Harvard for Bachelor's, Master's and PhD and is now a director of another multi-national company. The daughter went to Boston College (IIRC - what I do remember is that she got into Stanford and her parents said NO to a liberal West Coast school, which boggles my CA mind.) She became an MD, then joined the US Air Force, and is now a full Colonel. Both kids speak five or six languages fluently, and are world travelers. Obviously, they had good genes, but all that extra tutoring from their mother clearly did not hurt. They are also both a ton of fun and very adaptable to life's changes, but not sure if that's because of the tutoring or the parenting ;-).
All this to say +1 for the wife helping with the kids' education. You never know what could happen.
