Computer problems

Hey, I've got some computer problems and I figure instead of taking it to the geek squad I'd ask everyone here. My laptop won't charge. I've replaced the battery and the charger works fine, but when I plug it in it won't register the charge for some reason. Any suggestions?

Make sure the contacts that touch the battery on the laptop are clean.

Turn your laptop off and use a q-tip with alcohol.

How do you know the charger works?  Is it the right charger for the laptop?

Does the 'charging' light come on when you plug the battery in? Can you try a program like HW Monitor and tell us if the system sees the battery at all?

If it doesn't then yeah, some connection is not being made between the computer and the battery.

I've tested the charger with another computer toshiba that has the same charger. I've cleaned the battery port, and I don't think it's the battery. I think that the charger is not connecting to the computer for some reason. Somewhere between the plug and the battery the charge is getting dropped. Any suggestions on how to fix that.

Fairly common fault. Mostly likely the power socket on the laptop is broken/become detached from the pcb board. My only solution is to take it apart for closer inspection.

This is assuming you have successfully tested both the battery and power adapter.

Before you go taking it apart, check your warranty. If it was something internal then you might be covered.
