help grafting apple tree
« on: September 19, 2014, 05:17:29 PM »
I have a crabby feral apple tree in my yard that produces mealy pointless apples, but is healthy as hell. I'd like to graft some nice-apple-producing branches onto it, but I need some advice.

First off, can anyone recommend a useful guide to the procedure? I found an old Mother Earth News page that seems pretty straight-forward, but I would appreciate other leads.

Also, if any of you out there are grafting, where do you get the branches?

And (finally), how long will the new branches "keep" before you graft them? I might have to bring mine from pretty far away.
