Cheapest Place to Buy LED Lightbulbs for Outside Light
« on: December 13, 2018, 03:10:59 PM »
I live in a rowhome neighborhood and our neighborhood association is looking to purchase LED bulbs to encourage people to keep their outdoor lights on.

Where is the cheapest place to buy outdoor LED bulbs?

Any input on whether I should buy 60W vs 100W?

It's going to be hard to beat your local Costco, Home Depot, or Lowes.

If the fixtures are decently water-resistant, I wouldn't even bother with outdoor rated bulbs... I'm several years into using generic LED bulbs in my outside fixtures with no problems yet.  They start fine in the winter, unlike the CFLs.

Usually I would suggest Amazon first but prices on the Lowe's website are actually lower than Amazon prices [Lowe's $13.27 pk/2 GE 17 watt (100 watt replacement) as of 12/14/18 and Amazon $16.13 for an identical pk/2 GE 17 watt, similar savings on 60 watt replacements].

As far as the 60W equivalent vs the 100W equivalent, I find the 60W equivalent to be way brighter than an incandescent 60W bulb. Unless you really want bright lights, I'd stick with the 60W equivalent.

The dollar stores (used as a generic term) sell LED bulbs now.  Some of them have quite a variety.

I picked up a 4 pack of Sylvania LED 60W equivalent for $11.99 at my grocery store.  Saved me a trip to Home Depot though it cost me more there than HD's 8 pack for $28.18.  Like Syonyk, I always use the same bulbs indoors and out unless I needed something like a spot light --- all my outside usage has been in fairly well protected fixtures on porches.

Or you could always split the difference and get the 75 watt equivilents.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
