Donating Sperm/Eggs as a way to Give Back to Community
« on: May 08, 2017, 01:22:01 PM »
Where I live, there is no financial incentive to donate sperm.

However I heard an advertisement on the radio yesterday whilst driving home from work that there is a dire shortage of donors in my country for the rise in single females wanting children and same sex female couples wanting children.

I don't give back to the community much at all I'm quite selfish in that respect.

However, when the child turns 18, all my personal details would be known to them by law and they could contact me if they wish. This is the part I'm a bit uneasy about.

Has anyone done it? Donated sperm or eggs? What are your experiences?

Donating sperm is easy.

Donating eggs involves stimulation medications for a couple weeks & a surgical procedure to extract them. This is expensive & there is some risk for the donor.

I had a friend who donated eggs a few times. As mentioned, it's a process involving hormone injections, no drinking, exercising, and so on. Also need to have a great medical history including parents, grandparents, etc. It does pay quite well... she got $6k-$8k each time.

Donors can choose to be anonymous (the process where they are known after the child turns 18 is NOT anonymous) and furthermore, if the donor chooses the ID option, the parents can still override and choose to have the donor be anonymous.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
