US Mobile?
« on: December 11, 2020, 07:03:00 PM »
I'm thinking about leaving Airvoice Wireless and was looking into some other MVNO options. I'm currently on the $20 unlimited talk/text + 3GB of data from Airvoice. Needs are unlimited talk/text and probably 1+ GB of data for one line only.  I was hoping to stay around the $20 (or less) price point. My phone should be compatible with all four major US networks.

I saw US Mobile has a similar plan to what I'm on (with 2.5 GB of data) for $15/mo, but I haven't heard a lot about them before. I understand they're somewhat new to the scene, so that may be why. Just curious if anyone has used them and would recommend or advise against. Any thoughts?

I was also looking at Mint Mobile, as they have basically the same plan as Airvoice for $15/mo, but I found their "pay for a year ahead of time" thing to be gimmicky and the kind of thing that might screw you over at some point.

Do you happen to use Xfinity for their home internet service?

If yes, then you are eligible for the Xfinity Mobile service.

I have been using the service for over 3 years.  Unlimited talk/text + 1 GB of data for $12.00 per month.  Total comes to about $14.00 per month with taxes/fees.  They run on the Verizon network.

It has been a great option for me.

I have heard good things about us mobile. I'm thinking of switching my dad to it when he's ready to upgrade phones. They include international calling which is important to him.

Even if your handset is capable of all the major networks, if reception has been good on Airvoice? Stick with another carrier on the same network.

I've been with US Mobile in the past on the T-Mo end, but needed to migrate to an AT&T MVNO a couple years back due to reception issues and a desire to avoid having to purchase a Verizon handset just to stay with them and fix the problem. They were fine, but again, if you've had good coverage with AT&T MVNOs, stick with the critter you know.

I'm with Red Pocket now, and they have plans on AT&T, T-Mobile/Sprint and Verizon. Definitely stay away from the Sprint plans and MVNOs long term as a general rule, the network is slowly getting dismantled and the spectrum re-farmed to T-Mo 4/5G outside of their existing LTE towers that aren't redundantly placed to T-Mo's existing infrastructure. Not a big problem with the Sprint postpaid customers long term, but very problematic for the non-roaming MVNOs. Also, read the terms and opt out of Red Pocket's data collection if you go with them specifically and don't like that sort of thing. They're perfectly cromulent, otherwise.

There's also Puretalk USA which is another dedicated AT&T MVNO.

If you're up for a bit of a read, I just posted a bit in another thread that's directly related to Mint Mobile and their business model, even if it doesn't seem like it immediately. Take it for what it's worth.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
