Has anyone successfully used the extended warranty feature of their Chase Sapphire Reserve (or similar) credit card for a failed cell phone?
My wife's phone (Pixel 4a5g, about 1.5 yrs old, of course 6 months out of warranty) has failed, most likely a main board issue. It won't connect to any cellular network. Tried swapping sim cards, tried factory reset, no dice. Ubreak/Ifix won't even look at it since it's not under warranty. I couldn't even pay them to fix it if I wanted to.
Google is charging $349 for their mail-in repair service. I could potentially recover this cost through the Chase extended warranty, but then I risk being out the money if I don't jump through the correct hoops for the warranty claim.
I swapped my wife's sim over to my Pixel 4a5g, so she's good for now, while I'm currently using my ooooold Nexus 6 which is barely running LineageOS 18.1. So it seems at least one phone needs to get purchased / acquired in the near future.
I could just be an obedient American consumer and go buy a brand new phone. It's not like I don't have the money. It's more an issue of not being a consumer sucka, not contributing to e-waste, etc.
