Career to no where help
« on: March 16, 2016, 06:02:06 PM »
I am open to any and all help here are my stats:

BS History, MS Organizational Leadership

Current Series 6 and Insurance License
Under 1 year financial services (this is the career to no where)
5 years financial consulting on my own, had to do odd jobs to pay the bills
10 years coaching ice hockey (D1, prep school & high school)

Have gone to head hunters, networked, leveraged personal connections, applied to jobs online. No luck
Do have a 2nd interview for a finance and operations specialist at a very prominent company

side note, due to injury I can no longer skate (aka I can't coach). If you ask what I want to do, my answer is simple, be happy and make enough money to enjoy life (pay my bills, build my savings, invest and maybe go on a small trip every blue moon)

Any thoughts?

If financial planning interests you, join the local chapter of the Financial Planning Association, go to meetings and network.

As someone who has no clue whatsoever about insurance or finance industry, I would think your qualifications are not what's holding you back.  When people ask me about where to go, I always ask "if all jobs paid the same, what would you do?"    Now that you know what you want, is there any way to put prior experience/training to work doing that?  Organizational Leadership is something that is not limited to a particular market or industry.  Any sports related front office need that?

Managing a sports injury clinic?
Fundraising or managing a local or regional sports association?
Getting a single pro hockey player to use you as a financial advisor?
Being a financial advisor to kids in semi pro sports?
If you live in the states, my Canadian media tells me that your colleges have huge budgets for football.... someone must manage the business side of that.
Recreational manager at a senior home or centre.

If you're a natural salesman, real estate and car sales still seem to be viable careers. And real estate quickly turns into managing a team.

What level income are you at and trying to move to? I'm 100% happy making $30000/year, so my lists are probably shitty for someone whose bills are higher.

These are all great ideas!

I hate sales and commission based work.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
