Our (extremely non-interventionist) dentist warned us we'd be talking early orthodontics for DS (age 9) in the spring.
We are electing our dental benefits now, and trying to decide.
Plan A: 450 a year, 200$ deductible, pays 80% up to a 1200$ max benefit. Orthodontics and regular dental work would count towards the 200$ deductible. We've probably averaged less than one annual dental event per year.
Plan B: 150 a year, 200$ deductible, 500$ max benefit, no orthodontics coverage.
We are torn because we aren't expecting and cavities/crowns/etc. DS could get a consult and either they don't do early orthodontics or we decide to wait.
So far we've been on plan B and never exhausted the 500$ max.
