In his Tim Ferriss interview MMM mentioned that you could purchase a reliable car for $5 - 10,000.  What model car was he talking about?

I don't think he mentioned a specific car if I remember correctly just that used cars 6-10 years old are still very reliable ways to get around.

Well, there's approximately a bajillion cars that fit that criteria.  This article is about five years out of date, but fortunately that just means all the recommendations have depreciated some more. http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2012/03/19/top-10-cars-for-smart-people/

Specific recent data points:
My dad bought a 2007 Nissan Sentra two years ago with 84K for $3700.
A coworker bought a 2010 Hyundai Accent last year with 50K for $5000.

I've personally never paid more than $2,000 for a car.  Current car was $1,000 last year.

I bought a 2005 Honda Civic for $4200 about a year ago, about 90,000 miles on it.  Runs great.

About a year ago I paid $7700 for a three year old Nissan Leaf with 32k miles.  They are even cheaper now.
