Thanksgiving Decompression
« on: November 28, 2014, 04:42:04 PM »
Phew!
My first cousin just got engaged a month ago. I took her aside and asked her how she was doing with getting on the same page about money with her fiance. Last time I talked to her she told me that they had been arguing about it. She told me she had come around and she had started to appreciate his frugality. She said she was going to start maxing out her 401k as soon as she got a full time job (she's in school). Yay!

BUT she has convinced her fiance to buy her a coop in NYC. They are under contract and waiting for board approval. I looked up the address and he is paying $700,000 for the co-op, and is putting down 175k, by himself! He only makes about $100k a year. She won't have full time income for another 4 years. AND the fiance and her parents are paying another 30k (about) for the wedding next summer.

Anybody else have war stories, or want to process?
