Is there something you are attempting to glean from this? Or are you just curious?
If so, how often do you travel on average?
In theory it could, though I've yet to be out of the country; travel is project-based, so location is dependent on the site.
It goes in spurts usually. 6+ months without any travel, then could be 2-4 trips in 2 months.
What do you do?
Build/configure/deploy laboratory software
Do you enjoy it?
For the most part, yes. It requires a good deal of thinking and my day-to-day tasks are quite varied. Red-tape sucks though.
Is your job a 'remote' position (can work from home in any location when you're not traveling for work) or do you work in an actual office?
Office.
Half of it is curiosity, half of it is wondering if there are others in my field at all that are traveling often.
I think my idea/dream right now (as mentioned a little bit earlier on) would be to have a position that is remotely based, so I could live wherever I want to.
I honestly think if given that opportunity right now I would either (a) buy a home somewhere and do home exchanges every 6-12 months in different cities, or just (b) live in different cities every 6-12 months. I'm tired of having this 'itch' to move all the time and not being able to do anything about it. I think it's just part of my DNA.
Because technology is constantly evolving I don't think doing a or b would be extremely difficult in this day and age; I'm just not sure what type of position I could do. I currently work in pharma research and have noticed some (very very few) remote positions in certain departments...they have really caught my eye lately but I have not seriously considered any of them. I just keep an open mind for now and am researching...what...if anything could I do to still keep around my current salary and transition into a remote position that also involves some travel? I never had to do international travel until my current job. It really opened my eyes to a lot and I'd like to do more of it. Unfortunately we are pretty much done for the year and the prospect of further international travel in my current position is slim.
