Hello forums, this post is on behalf of my wife.
So, my wife and I moved to Canada (Toronto) early this year. I was previously working in IT and didn't have too much trouble finding a job (got one in 4 months). But my wife, who was previously working in Biotech has been finding it tough to crack the biotech job market. The toughest part so far, has been trying to even find where the jobs are. With IT, it is easy to search for jobs on Indeed/Monster/LinkedIN, etc. But the Biotech market doesn't seem to advertise positions - and sems like a network-only market. My wife is incredibly talented and is very eager to begin working, but she's feeling discouraged with the lack of insight/guidance into this field.
Has anyone here any information about the Biotech scene here and can shed some light on securing an entry - where to search for jobs, what certifications or licensing to clear, if any ? Is there someone here that works in this field who'd be happy to answer a few questions?

Been working in biopharma for 13 years. They absolutely do advertise online for positions, though as you point out, many are filled/created through networking. The real question is how many biotech firms are located within driving distance of where you live in toronto? That question should have been asked before the move there. To my knowledge, I am not aware of many firms in toronto, but that may just be my ignorance.
My advice is create a complete list of all firms within driving distance. Do not limit merely to biotech. Depending on your wife's skill set, the related pharmaceutical, medical device, in vitro diagnostics, etc industries may have really good job fits for her. Government and university jobs may also be available for her skill set, though compensation may be substantially less, but will work in a pinch until that private sector job shows up. Once youve generated that list, use it to target the most desirable firms, through every route possible (netoworking, linkedin, monster, their online website job board, Biospace, etc.). Good luck!
