Title: CAN moving to US: What happens to all my savings?
Post by: PM on October 13, 2019, 06:03:42 AM
Hi,

In all likelihood I will be moving to the states with work in the near future, however, I am wondering what happens to all my savings? We have substantial amounts in RRSPs, TFSAs, etc and once we move to the states there is a strong possibility we will remain there but who knows. What happens to all the CPP $ I contributed to as well?

We just hit 40 years old, if that makes a difference, and will buy a house down there and will retire in about 10 years (who knows for sure since we are having fun with our jobs and are FI right now). I will not move if it means I lose a substantial amount of our savings.

I know work will, at some point, educate us on this stuff but that won't be for another year or so and I am trying to figure all this stuff out now.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance
