Can a Fit fit a twin mattress?
« on: April 01, 2015, 10:17:45 AM »
Subject says it all--I want to know if I could fold down all the seats (including the front passenger) and stuff in a twin mattress or if I should rent one of those Home Depot trucks. It's a 2008 if that matters.

If you aren't going far just wrap the mattress in some plastic shrink wrap or something and strap it to the room. A mattress isn't going to hurt the roof even if you don't have a roof rack.

Single, maybe. I did fold over a double that came in a bag (one of those where you cut the shrink wrap and it decompresses itself) but that would not be possible with a standard mattress.

sounds like you have it, why not measure it?

FWIW the dimensions I found indicated 68" from the hatch to the back of the front seats which is 7" short, but it could probably be made to work (assuming those numbers are right to start with, it was not an official Honda diagram)

I haven't tried this with a spring mattress, but I'm pretty stubborn and I'd like to believe I'd get it to work. The thread interested me though because I have, in the past, fit both a king-sized mattress (foam, compressed) and the king-sized bed frame in a 2007/2008 Fit. Of course, this was from Ikea, and there was probably magic involved. But all the windows were closed, the hatch was shut, and I was comfy in my seat. But I did have to buckle the passenger seatbelt because it was chiming from the weight on that seat. (Also, initially I tried to fit all this in my friend's Tahoe, but we couldn't get the back doors shut so we had to bungee them, and it was January and it was freezing!)

The person who said the space was too short was right. It hung out several inches. I had to leave the hatch open, which makes one feel weirdly exposed. But I got it home. And, perhaps even more impressively, got it inside the house, which is no small feat for a lady of 4'11".
