Calculator or spreadsheet for paycheck: FT going to half time?
« on: January 02, 2024, 05:44:41 PM »
Hi all,

I'm a teacher with a full time role. Considering going to half time next school year. Many half time roles; unfortunately, my department only does 1.0 or .5 FTEs.

With all the additional activity involved with my payroll, I know a change in my FTE wouldn't be as simple as taking home half what I take home now.

Does anyone know a good calculator or spreadsheet for predicting what my take-home would be? I'd have adjustments of taxes, healthcare contributions, pension contributions, probably other stuff . . . it's beyond my own knowledge to DIY this math. I don't need a precise value, but don't want an unpleasant surprise, either. (that's what happened last time I stuck my neck out to make this change - my take home was far lower than I had anticipated - and I had to turn tail and go back to FT within 6 weeks).

Salary Paycheck Calculator – Calculate Net Income | ADP might work.

The case study spreadsheet will tell you your actual tax liability for the year.  How closely your withholding matches that is up to you.

My sister has used paycheckcity.com and liked it a lot. I have my own spreadsheet.
