Title: Buying individual health insurance in Massachusetts
Post by: kristof on December 22, 2016, 03:51:35 PM
I live in Masschuasetts and have a part time job with benefits and am considering switching to hourly and being paid through my LLC. In that case I'd need to buy health insurance for myself. I'm usually pretty good with this stuff but I'm kind of stumped on how to check prices for the plans that are out there, especially HDHP's. The government website at http://www.mass.gov/ago/doing-business-in-massachusetts/health-care/where-to-buy-health-insurance.html to MA Health Connector which I believe is the official exchange, but after filling out a long questionnaire, all I see are HMO plans. I also tried submitting the form at EHealthInsurance ( https://www.ehealthinsurance.com/massachusetts-health-insurance/health-plans/individual-medical ) but have gotten no response.

Any MA mustachians out there who have done this and could shed light on how/where you found your provider?

I bought through the health connector when I was between jobs - but this was many years ago. I believe they have a phone service - have you called them to follow up?

I haven't done this but I believe there are health insurance brokers that you can work with and/or you could join a professional organization that helped facilitate the purchase of health insurance.

One I found - just by Googling (so I make no assurances if they are reputable or not!) is this organization:

But I am sure you could find similar organizations.
