Title: Buying Hotel Points
Post by: ltt on October 28, 2016, 09:22:30 AM
Is it worth it to buy hotel points for .01 cents or .005 cents??

Its usually a good option only if you're topping up points to redeem them. For example if I needed 15,000 points to get a hotel room that is regularly $120 and I had 14,000 points I would spend $10 (penny a point). Its usually not a good value, its making the best of a situation.

Since points generally have expiration dates you can't always "afford" to wait till points accumulate if you're a low accumulator. That's when buying points becomes an imperative.

It also depends on the hotel chain/brand.  What type of points are you contemplating buying?

not all points are created equal. It really depends what brand you are talking about

Hilton--somewhere in Hawaii--where most of the rooms are 40,000-60,000 points depending on the season.

Hilton & IHG are by far the worst points out there. Do not recommend

I think you are confused on the cost, and it's .01 DOLLARS, not .01 CENTS.

If you know where I can get hotel points for .01 CENTS each, let me know and I will max out my credit cards on them. And get a HELOC. Hell, sell my house and go live in the hotel near work in the biggest suite.
