HSA Eligibility
« on: September 12, 2013, 05:07:29 PM »
Question for wise mustachians:

I recently changed employers, new one is a very small company which doesnt have a group health plan.  Instead they pay 80% of my premium for an individual plan.  I didnt put a huge amount of though into what plan I got since I figured I'd get a fancy new Obamacare next year.

Anyways I go a Bluecross HealthyBlue 2.0 in MD, $1500 deductible, $4500 out of pocket max.

I just looked into this since I got a notice from my old HSA servicer that they are going to start charging a maintenance fee on my HSA account since I didn't have a plan through my old employer anymore: Can I still contribute to this HSA?  My individual plan seems to meet the criteria for an HSA eligible account, but the description line on eHealthInsurance lists it as ineligible.

According to the IRS website these are the rules for 2013:
The following table shows the minimum annual deductible and maximum annual deductible and other out-of-pocket expenses for HDHPs for 2013.

                                            Self-only coverage   Family coverage
Minimum annual deductible   $1,250                   $2,500

Maximum annual deductible and
other out-of-pocket expenses*   $6,250    $12,500

Am I missing something or is my current plan eligible for an HSA and eHealthInsurance is incorrect?

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
