I ran some life insurance quotes on term4sale.com, and it seems that companies often take BMI into account when evaluating your health. My BMI is typically in the high end of the normal range, but 24 weeks into my pregnancy, it's now in the overweight range, thus tarnishing my health rating and increasing premiums at many companies. And of course I have no idea how long it will take me to lose all the weight after giving birth (if I even manage to lose all the weight at all!), so I could be in the overweight range for a while. The cheapest policy (30 yr, $1M) I qualify for at my current weight is only $2/month more than the cheapest policy at my pre-pregnancy weight, so it's not like we're talking about a huge sum of money here.
So a few questions:
-Do insurance companies take pregnancy into consideration when they look at your weight/BMI?
-Is there any chance they'd accept my pre-pregnancy weight from a recent doctor's visit just before I got pregnant?
-Do insurance companies even issue policies to pregnant women in the first place?
-Even if I end up having to pay a couple extra bucks per month for the policy, should I just go ahead and get insurance now and be done with it?
Also, in terms of actually applying for the policy, do you typically apply with the insurance company and then get a physical, or is it best to get a physical before you apply?
