Business Plan writing help
« on: March 11, 2014, 12:48:49 PM »
I am working on a career switch and need to write a business plan.  I have a background in engineering and have no experience with writing a business plan at all.  Anyone have some experience and can point me in the right direction?  I know I can turn to my friend google for help, but I would prefer to hear from actual people first before I start searching online.  Thanks!

I know the SBA has a business plan making tool:
http://www.sba.gov/tools/business-plan/1

Can't vouch for its quality though, as I've never used it.

You might also check out SCORE, a nonprofit that provides training and mentoring to new entrepreneurs -- they have a lot of business plan related resources and videos on their site: http://www.score.org/

In some cities there are organizations of women and female owned businesses.  You may want to see if there are some in your area.  You can get a lot of help from this type of group.

Your best bet might be to take a stab at writing one and try to get a critique from your local SCORE or small business association. Usually just the process of putting thoughts down on paper helps more than anything.

And I'm hoping to be doing the same thing in a few years, so good luck!
