Survey I didn't order.
« on: May 04, 2017, 02:12:52 PM »
Came home to find that someone else ordered a survey of our property, complete with markings.
Anyone else ever have this happen?

Curiously, we had an updated survey done less than 12 months ago to put up a fence.  Why would someone else go to the expense?

When you say "survey", do you mean a property survey to mark the property lines, or do you mean an underground utility locate?

They might if they thought you were infringing on their property. How well do you get on with your neighbours?

Is it possible a few of your corners were used as references to someone else's survey?

You could check with your permit office.  It could be as part of closing out the permit, they perform their own survey.  It could be someone complained about your fence.  It could be yours was the most recent survey someone is using as a starting off point for their own survey.  Did you see someone, or just flags?

Flags, tied to all four corners of my fence.  To my knowlege, they don't close out the permits in this way in our town.  Neighbor on one side didn't do it.  Neighbor on the other side is government property that, if sold, must be offered to me first.  As you say, it could be a jumping off point for someone else further away, or a complaint about my fence.   It was a little unnerving.
