Title: Book recommendations for a new college graduate
Post by: Ladychips on April 29, 2019, 08:16:43 AM
I have a soon-to-be college graduate in my life, and I'd like to give her a different gift than I normally choose (I always give money).  This time I am thinking of an Amazon gift card with a list of books I recommend (of course she can buy whatever she wants...I'm just suggesting some titles).  I'd like to have at least five books but no more than 10 on the list.

The two books I absolutely want to include:
1. Simple Path to Wealth - J Collins
2. Getting Things Done - David Allen

The books I am thinking about including:
3a. The Artist's Way - Julia Cameron
3b. The War of Art - Steven Pressman
the graduate will be a nurse, not in any kind of creative field.  But I'm not either and I found both of these books really meaningful.

The book I would like to include but haven't read
4.  The Next Millionaire Next Door - Dr. Stanley.  I read the original millionaire next door, but haven't read the updated version.  I hate to recommend a book I haven't read.

And maybe...
5. Good to Great
6. anything by Brene' Brown

Here is my concern...If I made a really great list, it would cover all areas of life (like a great cooking book, and a great home maintenance book, happiness, fullfilment, decision-making, etc.).  This list isn't that.

What book recommendations do you have for my list??

The personal finance book I read out of law school that had the greatest immediate impact on me was I Will Teach You to be Rich by Ramit Sethi.

It's geared towards younger people and it's entertaining.  It drives you towards getting the basics right and explains why -- no fees on your checking/savings accounts, pay off your credit card debt, invest in index funds, and importance of compound interest.

It is very approachable and, more importantly, actionable -- you feel like you can accomplish the stuff he sets forth in his book.

Economics in One Lesson is one I'd highly recommend. A great explanation of basic economics, easy to read, and not too long, but it doesn't insult your intelligence.
