Bona on hardwood
« on: September 19, 2015, 09:33:29 AM »
Good morning,
I dont want to continue to spend so much money on Bona for my hardwood floors.
Anyone have a tried and true hardwood cleaner (homemade if possible) that has worked for them?
TIA

Yeah, how about sweeping followed by a damp (not wet) mop?

Murphy's Oil Soap is good for wood floors. But, TomTX's question is a good one.  All you really need to do is sweep or vacuum, then damp mop.  I find that doing that every few months (the mopping) and sweeping every week, with spot cleaning when you see a spot or spill, does all I need.

I vacuum mine, and also occasionally use a dry dust mop.

That's what we do. We have a spray bottle of the Bona cleaner but reserve it for stubborn spots. The rest of the floor does great with regualr sweeping and an occasional damp mop.

We had a ton of Bona cleaner left at our house when we moved in. t's OK, but our old floors don't need any specific cleaner or turn out much better with it. Even if they're nice floors, use Murphy's oil soap and this. Other cleaners may work but your mileage may vary.

About $25  and every month or so I see $5 coupons for it. Grab an extra machine-washable pad for $6 and then you always have a clean one.

We were told windex (or regular window cleaner) is fine. I've got poly sealed hardwood, and it's worked beautifully.
